In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging residents to establish an emergency plan. The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season is set to begin on June 1 and will continue through November 30.

The DPS has issued several safety reminders to help Texans prepare effectively. They encourage individuals to gather information on building an emergency kit, familiarize themselves with evacuation routes, and explore other hurricane safety preparedness tips.

For those who may require assistance during a disaster, the DPS advises registering with the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR). This free registry provides local emergency personnel with crucial information about community needs. Registration can be completed by contacting the state’s 24-hour helpline at 2-1-1.

The DPS also reminds residents to stay informed about road conditions during severe weather events. “Please remember, turn around, don’t drown!” they emphasize in their advisory.
