The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking public assistance in solving a 2013 murder case in Harrison County. The reward for information leading to an arrest has been increased to $6,000 if the tip is received before the next featured Texas Rangers cold case is announced.
On October 7, 2013, the body of a 51-year-old woman was discovered by two truck drivers near the FM 450 ramp onto IH-20, south of Hallsville, Texas. The victim had been sexually assaulted, beaten, and strangled. At the time of her death, she was wearing only a light blue pullover, a white bra, and a diamond stud earring. She had lived a transient lifestyle across various states including Alaska, Colorado, Ohio, Georgia, Maryland, and Louisiana. Her last known residence was Irving, Texas where she briefly worked as a commercial truck driver.
Texas Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards funded by the Governor’s Public Safety Office for information that leads to arrests in any Texas Rangers cold case listed on their website. This initiative aims to generate public interest in unsolved cases.
To qualify for cash rewards related to this case, individuals must provide information through specified methods outlined by authorities.
As part of a DPS public awareness program, one cold case from the Texas Ranger Unsolved Crimes Investigation Program will be highlighted bi-monthly to encourage new investigative leads. For these featured cases, rewards are increased up to $6,000 with the stipulation that tips must be submitted before another case is featured.
