The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is increasing its enforcement measures for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday to enhance road safety. The initiative, known as Operation Crash Awareness Reduction Effort (CARE), will take place from July 3-6.
Operation CARE involves Texas Highway Patrol Troopers focusing on drivers who are speeding, intoxicated, not adhering to Texas’ Move Over, Slow Down law, or violating other regulations.
“The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate our freedoms with family and friends, but safety must come first,” stated Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee. “Whether you’re on the road, on the water or handling fireworks, make smart choices that protect you and those around you. Let’s work together to ensure everyone has a safe and happy Independence Day.”
During last year’s Fourth of July enforcement campaign, troopers issued over 59,521 citations and warnings. This included 5,178 for speeding; 1,581 for no insurance; and more than 335 for individuals without seat belts or child seat restraints. Additionally, DPS arrested 212 people on DWI charges and 250 individuals for other felony offenses.
DPS urges the public to adhere to safety guidelines during the Fourth of July weekend and beyond.
Furthermore, DPS reminds Texans about their program designed for reporting suspicious activities within communities to help prevent dangerous incidents. This vigilance is crucial as people gather for parades and festivals. Reports can be made via a hotline at 844-643-2251 or through the free iWatch iOS or Android mobile app. All submissions are confidential.
