Governor Greg Abbott met with Chihuahua Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin to discuss border security and economic collaboration between Texas and Chihuahua. The meeting focused on enhancing coordination for border security and expanding economic opportunities.
Governor Abbott praised Texas law enforcement for their efforts in working with the Trump Administration to manage illegal immigration, human trafficking, drug smuggling, and criminal activities. “The Governors talked about ways for the two states to partner together to protect their peoples from the former Biden Administration’s reckless open border policies,” a statement read.
Governor Campos highlighted shared values between Texas and Chihuahua in ensuring public safety through robust border security measures. Governor Abbott pointed out that since President Donald J. Trump took office, there has been a significant decrease in border crossings by 99.99%.
The discussion also included cross-border trade, noting Mexico as Texas’ largest trading partner. Both governors explored opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as semiconductor and technology manufacturing industries.
