Good Morning,
Last year, a case involving the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray in Houston, Texas, brought attention to immigration policies. Two individuals accused of the crime had entered the United States illegally. Concerns were raised about enforcement and detention practices. In response, legislation named the Justice for Jocelyn Act was reintroduced this week to address these issues.
Senator Ted Cruz emphasized the importance of acting swiftly to prevent similar tragedies. “Congress must act with urgency to ensure no other family endures the unimaginable pain that Jocelyn’s mother, Alexis Nungaray, has faced,” he stated.
In addition to this legislation, Senator Cruz also reintroduced the No Tax on Tips Act. This bill aims to exempt tips from federal income taxes as part of President Trump’s agenda. “This is a tax policy directed to people who are hurting and who need relief,” Cruz explained.
Cruz’s new role as Chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee brings focus on economic growth. He plans an active committee with hearings and legislative progress. “We’ll have disagreements… but at the same time… we are going to continue that for the next two years,” he noted.
As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Cruz supported Pam Bondi’s nomination for Attorney General. He criticized past actions by Merrick Garland and expressed confidence in Bondi’s ability to restore integrity at the Department of Justice: “I believe Pam Bondi is going to come in and restore integrity.”
Regarding foreign policy under President Biden, Cruz voiced concerns over actions related to Israel during conflicts there. He supports Marco Rubio’s nomination for Secretary of State: “[The Biden] administration has been the most anti-Israel administration we have ever seen.”
Cruz affirmed his commitment to working closely with President Trump on various national issues while maintaining Texas’s interests.
