Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican representing Texas in the U.S. Senate, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing border security and transgender participation in women’s sports.
On July 22, 2025, Cruz commented on President Biden’s approach to border security. He wrote, “President Biden said he couldn’t secure the border unless Congress passed new legislation. As President Trump pointed out, we didn’t need new legislation. We needed a new President.”
The following day, Cruz turned his attention to the issue of transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. In two separate posts made within minutes of each other on July 23, 2025, he stated: “Men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports – ever. It should not be controversial that someone born as a man who identifies as woman should still compete against men. That is why, in April, I opened an investigation into @USAFencing for their ‘commitment to” and reiterated this message with minor variation: “Men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports – ever. It should not be controversial that someone born as a man who identifies as a woman should still compete against men. That is why, in April, I opened an investigation into @USAFencing for their ‘commitment to”
Senator Cruz has been vocal about immigration and border policy throughout his tenure in the Senate. The debate over transgender participation in women’s sports has intensified nationally over recent years, with various state legislatures and federal officials weighing policies affecting athletic competition categories.
