Texas Longhorns junior right-handed pitcher Teagan Kavan was named the Southeastern Conference’s Pitcher of the Week, according to a March 10 announcement from the conference office. This marks Kavan’s second career SEC weekly honor and her first since February 2025.
The recognition comes after Kavan helped lead No. 3 Texas Softball to a road series sweep over No. 24 South Carolina to open league play from March 6-8 in Columbia, South Carolina. During the series, she recorded a win and a save in two appearances, including one start, while posting a 0.88 earned run average. Over eight innings pitched, Kavan allowed just one earned run on six hits and struck out seven batters without giving up an extra-base hit.
In the opening game of the series on March 6, Kavan delivered her sixth complete game of the season with five strikeouts over seven innings, allowing only one earned run and stranding six runners on base. The following day, she combined with senior pitcher Citlaly Gutierrez for a four-hit shutout in Texas’ 3-0 victory. Entering as a reliever in the seventh inning, Kavan retired all three batters she faced with three strikeouts to earn her first save of the season.
Kavan has also been recognized nationally this year as D1Softball’s National Pitcher of the Week on February 24—her third career national honor from that publication. So far this season, Texas has received two conference weekly honors; Reese Atwood was named SEC Player of the Week on February 9.
For the current season, Kavan holds a record of nine wins and no losses across twelve appearances (nine starts), maintaining a 1.96 ERA and leading her team in several pitching categories including wins (9), complete games (6), shutouts (2), innings pitched (57), and strikeouts (73). Her career total of 57 wins ranks eleventh among active NCAA players.
Texas is scheduled to return home for a midweek game against East Texas A&M at McCombs Field on Wednesday, March 11.
