Early voting ends tomorrow for Texas runoff elections

Early voting for the 2024 runoff elections in specific Texas counties is set to conclude tomorrow, December 10. The election process began on December 2 and will culminate with Election Day on Saturday, December 14. Voters have the opportunity to influence local positions such as city council and mayor.

Marliza Marin, Election Protection Manager of Common Cause Texas, emphasized the significance of participating in these elections: “Local elections allow voters to directly impact their communities. In the slim margins of a runoff, every vote counts! Whether or not you cast a ballot in November, don’t miss your opportunity to help decide the future of your own streets, neighborhoods, and schools.”

In Texas, there is no deadline for updating voting addresses within the same county. Registered voters can make address changes at any early voting location or on Election Day at their polling place.

The cities involved in this election include Harlingen (Cameron County), Princeton (Collin County), Copperas Cove (Coryell, Lampasas & Bell Counties), Glenn Heights (Dallas & Ellis Counties), El Paso & Socorro (El Paso County), Missouri City (Fort Bend County), Schertz & Cibolo (Guadalupe County), Baytown or Trustee District 1 of the Lone Star College system (Harris County), Kyle & San Marcos (Hays County), Weslaco (Hidalgo County), Groves (Jefferson County), Corpus Christi (Nueces & Aransas Counties), Ballinger (Runnels County), White Settlement (Tarrant County), Austin & Manor (Travis County), Uvalde (Uvalde County), Laredo (Webb County) and Wichita Falls (Wichita County).

Voters planning to participate early can locate early voting sites and schedules through VoteTexas.gov. They are allowed to vote at any site within their county during early voting. A valid photo or signature ID is required for in-person voting both during early voting and on Election Day; a list of acceptable IDs is available online.

For assistance with questions or issues during this election period, voters can reach out to the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE.
