U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) expressed his support for President Trump’s approval of a presidential permit to extend, maintain, and operate a vehicle and pedestrian crossing at the Camino Real International Bridge Land Port of Entry. This bridge connects Eagle Pass, Texas, with Piedras Negras, Mexico.
In 2023, Senator Cruz drafted legislation that facilitated permits for international bridges in Eagle Pass, Laredo, and Brownsville. “I would like to thank President Trump for approving the presidential permit to expand the Camino Real International Bridge Land Port of Entry,” said Sen. Cruz. “I will continue to lead the fight to secure additional permits that promote U.S. trade and create jobs throughout the Lone Star State.”
Senator Cruz has been active in expediting bridge permitting in the U.S. Senate. In June 2025, President Trump approved another presidential permit for the Laredo-Colombia Solidarity International Bridge.
Additionally, in May 2025, Senators Cruz and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) introduced the International Bridge and Port of Entry Modernization Act to expedite the presidential permitting process for all international bridges and land ports of entry.
Senator Cruz was recognized as the first elected Republican member to receive the Key to the City of Laredo for his efforts in streamlining the permitting process and securing permits for four major international bridges in South Texas.
In October 2024, Senators Cruz and Cornyn secured a presidential permit for the Laredo 4/5 International Bridge in Webb County.
