Rep. Chip Roy Press Office, through a series of tweets on April 15, 2025, conveyed insights into the distribution and impact of the average American’s tax dollar. Roy, representing Texas’s 21st District since 2019, addresses issues such as the allocation of tax dollars and the historical context of income tax in the United States.

On April 15, Roy highlighted in a tweet the allocation of the average American’s tax dollar, stating that “Medicare, Social Security, military, Medicaid, SNAP, Obamacare, and interest payments consume the overwhelming majority of our tax dollars.” This allocation indicates the substantial portion of federal tax revenue directed towards these programs.

In another tweet dated April 15, Roy questioned the evolution of government funding in the U.S., reflecting that “for much of U.S. history, tariffs and excise taxes funded the government—no income tax.” He added that the introduction of the income tax expanded the government’s “SIZE & SCOPE.” He included a chart illustrating the historical changes in government funding.

Furthermore, Roy expressed his view on the income tax as a “great example of a Trojan Horse government policy,” highlighting that the original tax rates of 1-to 7% were much lower than current brackets. This statement underscores his perspective on the evolution of tax policy over time.

Chip Roy, born in 1972 in Bethesda, Maryland, currently resides in Austin and has a background in educational studies from the University of Virginia and the University of Texas-Austin. He succeeded Lamar Smith in the 21st District of Texas in the U.S. Congress.
