Rep. Chip Roy, representing Texas’ 21st District in the U.S. Congress since 2019, has expressed concerns over budgetary matters and healthcare reform through his recent communications. Chip Roy replaced Lamar Smith and has been an active voice in congressional debates. Born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972 and currently residing in Austin, Roy holds degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Texas-Austin.
On April 8, 2025, Rep. Roy spoke to Fox News regarding his stance on the current budget proposal. He stated, “I’ve got a bill in front of me, and it’s a budget, and that budget, in my opinion, will increase the deficit, and I didn’t come here to do that.” Roy emphasized his opposition to any budget that may contribute to a deficit increase.
A subsequent tweet on April 9 highlighted Roy’s criticism of the Senate’s approach to tax and spending adjustments. He argued, “You cannot have a one way ratchet on tax cuts and ignore the spending side of the ledger… the Senate budget is all tax cuts and no spending cuts.” In a video shared, Roy called for a balanced consideration between tax cuts and reductions in spending.
Later on April 9, Rep. Roy addressed the state of Medicaid, calling for reforms. In his view, “Medicaid is not delivering health care that the American people deserve… of course we should reform it.” The tweet underscored his position on improving the effectiveness of federal healthcare programs.
