Chip Roy, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 21st District since 2019, has been vocal on various issues through his press office’s social media account. Born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972 and now residing in Austin, Roy graduated from the University of Virginia with a BS and later earned a JD from the University of Texas-Austin. His recent tweets address significant topics concerning Medicaid eligibility, birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment, and proposed legislative changes.
On May 15, 2025, Rep. Chip Roy stated that “We should not be giving Medicaid to anyone who is ineligible, including those who are illegal, and we should kill all the scams the blue states are using to launder federal money to all of their ridiculous programs.” He emphasized that Republicans should support the president’s stance on this issue.
In another tweet on the same day at 15:51 UTC, he argued about the interpretation of the 14th Amendment. According to him, “The drafters of the 14th Amendment intended automatic U.S. citizenship for former slaves.” He mentioned that Wong Kim Ark applies only to certain legal immigrants and supported executive orders on birthright citizenship by stating they are consistent with historical interpretations.
Later that day at 15:55 UTC, Rep. Roy expressed skepticism regarding current Medicaid requirements. He declared that “Significant changes [are needed] or it ain’t going anywhere.” Criticizing existing plans extending until ’29 without necessary Medicaid requirements as “laughable.”
