Rep. Chip Roy, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 21st district since 2019, recently shared his views on several legislative matters through a series of tweets. Roy, born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972 and currently residing in Austin, has been vocal about his stance on various issues.
On May 17, 2025, Rep. Roy expressed his opinion on repealing what he referred to as the “Green New Scam” within the context of a legislative package dubbed the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill.” He stated that “The President campaigned on terminating it, ending it right out of the gate. And the truth is, as we started peeling it back, a lot of the projects are able to go and a lot of the funding to all of these”.
In another tweet posted shortly after on May 17th, Rep. Roy addressed tax relief for Americans and small businesses. He emphasized his reluctance to be pressured into making hasty decisions regarding tax policies by stating “We all want tax relief, particularly for hardworking Americans and small businesses, but I’m not going to get put over the barrel because everybody’s freaking out that we got to deal with the taxes, especially at the top end of the bracket and so forth”.
Later that day, Rep. Roy commented on economic goals related to GDP and deficit management. He remarked that “We are not on a path to get to three or three and a half percent of GDP as our deficit unless we do more in this bill.”
Chip Roy holds degrees from both the University of Virginia (BS) and University of Texas-Austin (JD), contributing to his extensive background prior to his congressional career.
