Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Pasadena has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO). This certification is part of an initiative aimed at fostering economic development and job creation related to the music industry in Texas.

Governor Abbott congratulated Pasadena on this achievement, stating, “With support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide.”

Senator Carol Alvarado emphasized Pasadena’s rich musical heritage, saying, “From the world-famous Gilley’s honky-tonk to generations of local talent, music is at the heart of Pasadena’s identity.”

Mayor Jeff Wagner expressed his excitement about the designation: “We honor a rich musical legacy that resonates far beyond our city limits… This recognition is a tribute to our past and an invitation to all emerging artists, promoters, and music-lovers in Pasadena to amplify their voices and continue this proud tradition.”

Councilwoman Pat Van Houte noted Pasadena’s diverse musical influences: “This Music Friendly Texas Community designation is officially recognizing what we have known all along: Pasadenans love music.”

Sherry Free, Executive Director of the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo, remarked on the potential benefits for the community: “This is a huge win for Pasadena and for our culture, economy, and future. It opens the door to new partnerships, tourism, and creative opportunities.”

Murline Staley from the Pasadena Strawberry Festival highlighted how this recognition could inspire future growth: “Most importantly, it inspires the next generation to embrace our history while dreaming bigger for tomorrow.”

The certification ceremony will take place during Pasadena’s annual 4th Fest celebration on July 4th at 7:15 PM at the Pasadena Convention Center and Municipal Fairgrounds. The event will be cohosted by TMO alongside local organizations.

Pasadena now joins a network of over 80 certified communities across Texas as part of TMO’s Music Friendly Community Program. This program has been promoting economic development within Texas’ music industry since its inception in 2016.
