First Team All-American Madison Booker was named the winner of the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year award, according to an announcement on Apr. 4 by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
Booker has now won this award three times, joining Ashley Joens from Iowa State as one of only two players to achieve this in the history of the honor. The recognition comes after a season in which Booker led Texas to its second consecutive Final Four appearance.
“It’s an honor to win the Cheryl Miller Award,” Booker said. “Coach Schaefer talks to us all the time about the history of the game and honoring the game. I wouldn’t be the player I am without the support of my coaches, teammates and family. This is for them and all they have done for me.”
Booker averaged career bests with 18.9 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field this season. She scored at least 20 points in 15 games during this campaign, bringing her career total to 43 such performances.
Texas head coach Vic Schaefer praised Booker’s contributions both on and off court, saying: “Madison Booker is such a special young lady… She has been a blessing to Coach and so much fun to be around both on and off the floor. She has the vision and passing skills of a point guard… Her work ethic and investment in her game is elite.”
In postseason play, Booker set several records including scoring a program-record 40 points in an NCAA Tournament game during Texas’ second round matchup. Her total points for this season reached 738, ranking third all-time at Texas for single-season scoring; she currently stands fifth on Texas’ career scoring list with 1,969 points after her junior year.
Booker also became first in program history with at least 1,900 points, 600 rebounds, and 400 assists over her career, as well as setting new marks for NCAA Tournament performance.
