Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Lancaster, Texas, has successfully completed the required training and certification process to become a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community. This recognition, awarded by the Texas Film Commission, involves Lancaster joining over 175 Texas communities already designated as such.
Governor Abbott stated, “Congratulations to Lancaster on earning the Film Friendly Texas designation and joining more than 175 other Texas communities that have received this recognition.” He highlighted the benefits of the certification, which “prepared to help match local businesses with production-related needs, creating jobs for Texas-based crew members and local residents, as well as spurring on-site spending at local businesses.” Abbott also acknowledged the role of the Texas Film Commission in promoting local job creation through media production by saying, “I thank the Texas Film Commission for helping communities like Lancaster market their unique appeal and support local job creation through media production.”
Representative Aicha Davis also expressed her commendation, saying, “Congratulations, Lancaster. I applaud the city for their innovative efforts to grow and support local businesses and high quality jobs.” She extended her gratitude to the Texas Film Commission and the Governor’s Office for their collaborative efforts in achieving this status.
Mayor Clyde C. Hairston of Lancaster described the certification as “an amazing milestone in Lancaster’s story.” He emphasized the city’s readiness to welcome filmmakers, noting that “this certification not only puts Lancaster on the map for future productions — it amplifies our commitment to economic growth, artistic expression, and storytelling that reflects the heart of our community.”
The Texas Film Commission has been promoting the state as a prime destination for the film, television, commercial, animation, visual effects, video game, and extended reality productions for over 50 years. The ongoing support includes guidance on media industry standards and practices for communities seeking to host media production.
