Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to the City of Lampasas for being designated as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas. The city achieved this distinction in the program’s inaugural year after going through a comprehensive certification process. The designation signifies the Lampasas Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center’s dedication to using tourism as an economic development tool, stimulating job creation, and attracting more visitors locally, nationally, and globally.

Governor Abbott remarked on the economic impact of tourism, saying, “Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas. Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state.” He encouraged all Texas communities to consider applying for this certification to promote tourism and job growth.

Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell highlighted Lampasas’s qualities by saying, “Being named a Tourism Friendly Texas Community affirms what visitors have long known — Lampasas is a place to slow down, take in the Hill Country scenery, and enjoy true hospitality.”

Senator Pete Flores expressed his excitement over the designation, attributing it to the Chamber’s hard work to make tourism an economic driver. Representative David Spiller also praised Lampasas for its unique charm and ensuing economic growth.

Mayor Herb Pearce invited visitors to experience the town’s offerings, remarking on its historic downtown, natural attractions, and small-town Texas hospitality. He portrayed Lampasas as a destination for adventurers and those seeking relaxation.

City Manager Erin Corbell conveyed similar sentiments, looking forward to hosting visitors to the community known for its history and charm.

The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program targets local governments and non-profit organizations leading tourism development efforts. The designation helps these entities strengthen tourism relationships, educate leaders, and prioritize tourism strategies. More information about the program is available at the website: gov.texas.gov/tourism-friendly-texas.

Travel Texas, part of the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office, aims to market Texas as a key travel destination, enhancing local economies by attracting non-Texan visitors to the state.
