Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to the City of Killeen for being recognized as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas. This designation marks the inaugural year of the program, and Killeen has completed a rigorous certification process to achieve this status. The recognition underscores the city’s commitment to using tourism as a strategy for economic growth, job creation, and attracting visitors both nationally and internationally.
“Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas,” stated Governor Abbott. “Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $199 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state.” He also praised Killeen’s efforts, encouraging other Texas communities to seek similar certification to boost local tourism and job growth.
Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell highlighted Killeen’s unique offerings, saying, “As a city that blends rich history with versatile attractions, Killeen offers visitors a distinct taste of Texas hospitality.” He noted Killeen’s connection to Fort Cavazos and its diverse arts, shopping, and dining scene as part of its appeal.
Senator Pete Flores emphasized the economic benefits of promoting tourism in Killeen. “This recognition highlights Killeen’s commitment to promoting tourism as a vital catalyst for economic growth and job creation,” he said.
Representatives Brad Buckley and Hillary Hickland also commended Killeen on receiving this designation. Buckley pointed out the city’s blend of military history with modern amenities, while Hickland remarked on its welcoming spirit that draws visitors from across the nation.
Killeen Convention & Visitors Bureau Manager Tanida Mullen expressed pride in the community’s achievement: “Tourism is at the heart of Killeen, and this recognition as a Tourism Friendly Texas destination is a testament to the passion and dedication of our entire community.”
