Texas Women’s Tennis sophomores Carmen Herea and Anastasia Abbagnato received All-America honors in singles from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on May 26. This is the first time both athletes have earned this recognition in their careers.

Herea and Abbagnato are the ninth and tenth players under head coach Howard Joffe at Texas to become All-Americans in singles or doubles, bringing the program’s total to 14 such honors since 2016. It is also the fourth season under Joffe with multiple All-Americans, with the most recent occurrence in 2022 when Peyton Stearns and Kylie Collins were recognized in singles, while Stearns and Allura Zamarripa were honored in doubles.

The ITA awards All-America status to singles players who win the ITA All-American Championship, advance to at least the round of 16 at NCAA Individual Championships, or finish among the top 20 of final ITA Singles Rankings. Doubles teams receive recognition by winning the ITA All-American Championship, reaching NCAA Championship quarterfinals, or finishing among the top ten nationally.

Herea finished her season ranked No. 3 nationally by ITA and reached the quarterfinals of NCAA Singles Championships. She was also a First-Team All-SEC selection this year, rose as high as No. 1 in national rankings—becoming only the fourth Longhorn since 1995 to do so—and posted a record of 23-8 overall with five top-15 victories.

Abbagnato earned First-Team All-SEC accolades after joining Texas in January. She achieved a season-high ranking of No. 6 nationally during her freshman campaign, compiling a record of 14-8—all dual matches—primarily playing at the No. 2 position for Texas.

Both Herea and Abbagnato contributed to Texas advancing to its sixth consecutive NCAA Round of 16 appearance this season while helping secure an overall team record of 19-8.
