Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to request federal disaster assistance for five additional counties following severe flooding in Texas. The counties include Burnet, Llano, Mason, McCulloch, and Tom Green. This action seeks to add these areas to President Donald J. Trump’s Major Disaster Declaration.
“Texas continues to rebuild and recover following recent catastrophic flooding,” said Governor Abbott. “Today, I requested that additional counties be added to President Trump’s Major Disaster Declaration to ensure affected communities receive the assistance needed to respond and move forward. We will help all of our communities through the recovery process.”
Damage assessments in the mentioned counties have exceeded federal criteria for FEMA’s Public Assistance program. This program provides aid for emergency work and repairs or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. Additional requests may follow as more information becomes available.
Governor Abbott is actively involved in providing resources and support for flood response efforts across Texas. His actions include visiting impacted Texans with President Trump in Kerrville, launching an emotional support line for those affected by flooding, and securing federal disaster assistance approval.
Further measures involve directing ongoing flood response efforts, announcing unemployment assistance related to flood impacts, surveying damage in affected areas, and updating Texans on recovery progress.
The governor has also increased readiness levels at the State Operations Center and activated additional state emergency response resources as parts of West and Central Texas face heavy rainfall threats.
