Governor Greg Abbott has renewed the border security disaster proclamation originally issued on May 31, 2021. The proclamation certifies that the surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas–Mexico border poses an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster to various Texas counties and state agencies.
Governor Abbott stated, “I do hereby renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster” for a specific set of counties, as well as “for all state agencies affected by this disaster.” This renewal includes counties such as Aransas, Brewster, Cameron, and El Paso, among others.
The initial proclamation has been amended several times to modify the list of affected counties and maintain the state of disaster. Abbott emphasized that “the certified conditions continue to exist and pose an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster.”
The renewal ensures that all orders, directions, suspensions, and authorizations from the May 31, 2021 proclamation remain in effect.
In accordance with the statutory requirements, copies of this proclamation will be filed with the relevant authorities. Governor Abbott signed the document on April 22, 2025, in Austin, Texas. The proclamation was attested by the Secretary of State, Jane Nelson.
