Governor Greg Abbott has expressed his approval following the Texas Legislature’s passage of House Bill 14, which aims to transform the state’s nuclear industry. The legislation is seen as a significant step toward initiating a broader nuclear power movement in the United States.
“Texas is the energy capital of the world, and this legislation will position Texas at the forefront of America’s nuclear renaissance,” Governor Abbott stated. He emphasized that by establishing the Texas Advanced Nuclear Energy Office and committing $350 million, which he described as “the largest national commitment,” Texas intends to accelerate next-generation nuclear development and deployment. According to Abbott, this move will also enhance Texas’ capacity for nuclear manufacturing, reestablish a domestic fuel cycle supply chain, and provide training for future workers in the nuclear sector. He added that he looks forward to signing it into law.
The announcement follows last year’s unveiling by Governor Abbott of Texas’ strategy to develop an advanced nuclear power industry. The plan is designed to improve electric reliability and energy security while fostering economic growth and creating new job opportunities for Texans.
