Governor Greg Abbott convened a meeting with Texas energy providers to address expectations for the upcoming hurricane season. The meeting took place yesterday and included key figures from major energy companies.
In attendance were CenterPoint Energy, Inc.’s President and CEO Jason Wells, Executive Vice President of Regulatory Services and Government Affairs Jason Ryan, American Electric Power Texas’ President and COO Judith Talavera, Director of Government Affairs Isaac Albarado, Entergy Texas, Inc.’s President and CEO Eli Viamontes, and Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Ryland Ramos.
Governor Abbott discussed the resilience of Texas’ power grid, emphasizing the state’s status as “the energy capital of the world.” He received commitments from the executives regarding their preparedness measures for the hurricane season. These include enhanced deployment of emergency linemen. The executives informed the Governor about their investments in system resiliency, plans for emergency preparedness, customer communications strategies, and coordination with local emergency response teams.
The Governor concluded by stressing the necessity of an effective restoration effort to safeguard Texans during hurricanes.
