Governor Greg Abbott expressed gratitude to President Donald J. Trump following his appointment to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Review Council. The council is a bipartisan initiative focused on reforming the nation’s emergency management and disaster response system. Alongside Abbott, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd has also been appointed to the council.
Governor Abbott, reflecting on his experience in disaster management, stated, “As Governor of Texas, I have seen firsthand the critical role emergency management plays to protect Texans and our communities when disaster strikes.” Abbott emphasized that Texas has built a robust emergency management operation and looks forward to contributing to the national dialogue on strengthening FEMA.
Chief Kidd also expressed commitment to enhancing FEMA’s effectiveness, saying, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the FEMA Review Council and collaborate on recommendations to enhance the capabilities of emergency management across the country.”
The council was established by an Executive Order issued by President Trump on January 24. Its purpose is to assess FEMA’s ability to respond to disasters impartially and to recommend changes that best serve the national interest.
Abbott and Kidd aim to ensure FEMA becomes more responsive and supportive of state-led disaster efforts, bringing their experience and leadership from Texas to the forefront of national emergency management discussions.
