Governor Greg Abbott has notified Texans about safety protocols and resources in response to military actions in the Middle East that could threaten American civilians. He urged Americans, especially those in the region, to follow security alerts from U.S. embassies or consulates.

Texans who need immediate help can contact the U.S. Department of State at 1-202-501-4444 from outside the United States or 1-888-407-4747 from within the country. The Texas Fusion Center is also available at 1-844-927-0521.

“The safety and well-being of Texans are paramount,” said Governor Abbott. “Now more than ever, Texans must remain vigilant and follow the guidance of U.S. officials as military action continues overseas. The State of Texas is actively coordinating with our federal partners to safeguard Texans abroad and at home from hostile foreign actors.”

Governor Abbott and state officials have recommended several steps for personal safety:

They advise monitoring travel advisories and security alerts issued by the U.S. Department of State and local embassy offices, registering with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for real-time updates, keeping family informed about travel plans, avoiding high-risk areas where violence or unrest may occur, following all instructions from authorities if shelter-in-place or travel restrictions are announced, staying away from crowds and military activity zones, keeping copies of important documents on hand, having emergency contacts ready, and ensuring reliable communication.

The Governor’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety will continue to monitor developments in coordination with federal agencies to provide timely information as events unfold.

According to information published on the official website, Governor Abbott has led his office since being elected in 2014 and operates out of Austin’s State Insurance Building.
