Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to the City of Borger for its designation as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas. This recognition follows Borger’s successful completion of a multi-step certification process, highlighting its commitment to tourism as an economic growth strategy and job creator.
“Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies,” stated Governor Abbott. “Travelers to and within Texas generate almost $200 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. I congratulate the City of Borger on earning this designation.”
Tim Fennell, Director of Travel Texas, praised Borger for inviting visitors to experience outdoor recreation, small-town hospitality, and local heritage in the Texas Panhandle. He noted that the certification reflects Borger’s efforts to grow its tourism economy while preserving its unique qualities.

The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program invites local governments or non-profit organizations involved in tourism promotion to participate. The benefits include strengthening relationships crucial for tourism development, educating local leaders on tourism’s importance, prioritizing strategies driven by local needs, and exploring opportunities provided by Travel Texas.
Travel Texas aims to market Texas as a premier travel destination globally through out-of-state promotions, thus generating revenue and employment for communities statewide.
