Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to the City of Frisco for achieving the status of a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community, as awarded by Travel Texas. This is the inaugural year for the program, and Frisco completed a multi-step certification process to earn this designation.
Articulating the significance of tourism, Governor Abbott commented, “Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas. Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state.” He praised the City of Frisco and Visit Frisco, encouraging other communities to apply for the certification to grow local tourism and jobs.
Echoing these sentiments, Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell cited Frisco’s standing as a growing sports hub and a family-friendly destination. He noted, “Frisco has earned its place on the map as both a sports powerhouse and a family-friendly destination on the rise.” Fennell highlighted attractions such as Frisco’s sports venues and museums that contribute to its appeal.
Mayor Jeff Cheney reiterated Frisco’s success in tourism, hosting approximately 7.5 million visitors annually. Cheney expressed pride in the Visit Frisco team’s achievement, emphasizing local attractions like Stonebriar Mall, Frisco RoughRiders games, and the PGA of America’s Frisco campus.
Visit Frisco Executive Director Marla Roe shared feelings of honor over the city’s new designation. “We are so honored and excited to have earned the Tourism Friendly Texas Community designation from Travel Texas,” she said. Roe pointed out Frisco’s long-standing reputation as a destination for families, sports, and concerts.
The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program, targeting local governments and non-profits, aims to enhance tourism promotion and development. It offers participants improved tourism strategies and opportunities for relationship-building and education on tourism’s economic contributions.
Travel Texas, functioning within the Governor’s Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, is tasked with highlighting Texas as a top travel destination. Its mission aligns with boosting out-of-state and international visitation to generate economic benefits for local communities and the state.
