Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of six individuals to the Nueces River Authority. Olen “Feller” Hughs, Daniel “Danny” Kelley, and Daniel Suckley have been appointed alongside the reappointments of Jane Bell and Lisa Greenberg. Shannon Freund has also been appointed. Their terms will expire on February 1, 2031, with the exception of Freund, whose term will end on February 1, 2027. The authority is responsible for overseeing the management and conservation of the water resources in the Nueces River Basin, along with other environmental and recreational activities.
Olen “Feller” Hughs from Barksdale is a retired professional with past roles including president of Consolidated Beef Producers and board member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association. His community involvement includes serving as a lay leader and treasurer at Barksdale Methodist Church. Hughs has a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas Tech University.
Daniel “Danny” Kelley, a retired engineer from Karnes City, has been involved in community service as the financial secretary of the Karnes City Knights of Columbus and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Daniel Suckley is a senior lender at American Bank, N.A., in Corpus Christi. His board memberships have included roles with the Robert and Janis Birchall Foundation and other community associations. Suckley holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Jane Bell, from Corpus Christi, has contributed to the community in various capacities, including as area director for the American Diabetes Association. She continues to serve on several local boards and has a Bachelor of Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin.
Lisa Greenberg, an attorney based in Corpus Christi, serves in leadership roles with the Texas Criminal Defense Attorneys Association and related organizations. She holds multiple qualifications from Texas Tech University, including a Juris Doctor.
Shannon Freund, from Beeville, works as a customer development manager at Advantage Solutions – Mars Wrigley. Her community service includes work with the Beeville Education Foundation. Freund has a Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
These appointments are pending confirmation by the Senate.
