Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Sir Professor Mallory Factor to the Governor’s University Research Initiative (GURI). This appointment is for a term that will last at the discretion of the Governor. The board’s role is to assist the Office of the Governor in reviewing and evaluating grant proposal applications, making recommendations on whether these should be approved or disapproved.
Sir Professor Mallory Factor KCNG, based in Austin, holds multiple leadership roles as Chairman, President, and CEO of IntraBio Inc. He also serves as a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Oxford. Previously, he was the John C. West Professor at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. His career spans both public and private sectors where he has advised and invested in biotechnology, technology, and manufacturing companies.
Factor is recognized as a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a fellow of Historic Royal Palaces. His past roles include serving as a senior advisor in both the United States Senate and the United Kingdom’s House of Lords. Additionally, he was part of several boards including being a member of the Board of Governors for New York State Banking Department and chairman for The New York Public Asset Fund. He also held a Presidential Appointee position with the Federal Home Loan Bank Savings and Loan Council.
Professor Factor’s academic background includes earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from Wesleyan University along with studies in Columbia University’s joint Business and Law Program.
