Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of five individuals to the Texas Historical Commission. Mike Hagee, Kay Hindes, and Dick Tips are newly appointed members, while John W. Crain and Gilbert E. “Pete” Peterson, III have been reappointed. Their terms will expire on February 1, 2031.
The Texas Historical Commission plays a crucial role in leading and coordinating services for projects related to the preservation of archeological and historical heritage across the state. It also serves as a clearinghouse and information center for historical data.
Mike Hagee from Fredericksburg is retired from his roles as Commandant in the U.S. Marine Corps and CEO of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. He has served on various boards including Securing America’s Future Energy and the U.S Global Leadership Coalition.
Kay Hindes of Pleasanton is an archaeologist with previous experience as San Antonio’s city archaeologist. She holds memberships in several archaeological societies.
Dick Tips from San Antonio leads R.D. Tips, Inc., focusing on restoration projects such as those involving Texas landmarks like the Fairmount Hotel.
John W. Crain from Dallas returns to the commission after serving as its vice-chairman previously. He is involved with several historical organizations including The Bryan Museum and Summerlee Foundation.
Gilbert E. “Pete” Peterson, III from Alpine brings over five decades of experience in fields like education and investments to his role at the commission.
These appointments reflect Governor Abbott’s commitment to preserving Texas’ rich history through experienced leadership at the Texas Historical Commission.
