Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Lawrence “Larry” Coben, Ph.D., and Bruce Niemeyer to the Texas Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors. Their terms will last at the Governor’s discretion. The Texas Economic Development Corporation collaborates with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism to promote Texas as a prime business destination both nationally and internationally.
Lawrence “Larry” Coben, Ph.D., from Houston, currently serves as Chairman, President, and CEO of NRG Energy, Inc. His previous roles include chairman and CEO positions at various Tremisis Energy affiliates. He has also held board positions at SAESA and Prisma Energy, served on Morgan Stanley Infrastructure II’s advisory board, founded the ESCALA Initiative, and was formerly president of New York Stage and Film’s board. Coben is an alumnus of Yale University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, holds a Master’s and Doctorate in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, and earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.
Bruce Niemeyer resides in The Woodlands and is Chevron’s president for Americas Exploration and Production. At Chevron, he previously worked as corporate vice president for strategy and sustainability as well as vice president for the mid-continent business unit. Niemeyer is actively involved with the Upstream Committee of the American Petroleum Institute and serves on the executive committee of the Greater Houston Partnership. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
The appointments are pending confirmation by the Senate.
