Governor Abbott announces appointments to several Texas boards and committees

Governor Greg Abbott announced on Apr. 10 the appointment and reappointment of several individuals to key state boards and committees in Texas.

These appointments impact areas such as water management, early childhood intervention, public education funding, patriotic education, technical colleges, and university governance. The selections are part of the Governor’s responsibility to provide leadership across the state through board appointments.

Jody Anderson was reappointed to the Angelina and Neches River Authority Board of Directors and named president. Kimberly “Kim” McRae Childs, Ph.D., and Thomas Murphy were also reappointed for terms ending September 5, 2029. The Board oversees construction, maintenance, and operations in the valleys of the Neches River and its tributaries.

The Early Childhood Intervention Advisory Committee saw both new appointees—Rebeca Ciesielski, Susana Perez, Jennifer Villarreal, Ed.D., Mandy Young, Representative Alan Schoolcraft—and returning members Rachel C. Bowden, Cynthia D. Lee, Ed.D., Allison P. Wilson for terms expiring February 1, 2031 or February 1, 2029 depending on their position. This committee advises on policies for statewide early childhood intervention services.

Gilbert “Gil” Burciaga, Marcella Burke, Brad Curlee and David Eyler were reappointed to the School Land Board until August 29, 2027; this board manages land assets that support public education funding in Texas.

For patriotic education efforts under the Texas 1836 Project Advisory Committee—which aims to promote awareness of Texas values—Don Frazier Ph.D., Greg Sindelar (as chair), and Ernesto Rodriguez III were appointed or reappointed until September 1, 2027.

Frank Denton was appointed while Kathy A. Powell Stewart D.N.P. and Ron Widup were reappointed as regents at Texas State Technical College System through August 31, 2031; John “Johnny” Weisman joined Charlie Amato and Bill Scott with new or renewed roles at the Texas State University System Board of Regents until February 1, 2031.
