Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources in anticipation of severe weather and flash flooding expected over the weekend.

“Texas continues to stand ready to deploy all necessary resources to support Texans as severe storms move across our state,” said Governor Abbott. “Today, I activated state emergency response resources to support local officials and first responders ahead of severe weather and flash flooding threats starting tonight and through the weekend. I urge Texans to remain weather-aware and heed the guidance of state and local officials to ensure the safety of themselves and their loved ones.”

The National Weather Service forecasts that severe storms will bring heavy rainfall capable of causing flash flooding across Northwest Texas, far West Texas, North Texas, the Big Country, Permian Basin, Concho Valley, and the Hill Country beginning overnight and continuing through the weekend.

Following Governor Abbott’s directive, TDEM has mobilized Texas A&M Task Force 1 swiftwater rescue boat squads from the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service to aid local storm response efforts.

These measures are in addition to ongoing operations in flood-affected areas throughout the state where response teams continue their work.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by following instructions from local authorities and monitoring weather updates.
