U.S. Senators John Cornyn, Steve Daines, Pete Ricketts, and other Republican colleagues have introduced the Justice for American Victims of Illegal Aliens Act. This legislation seeks to make permanent President Trump’s Executive Order that subjects illegal immigrants who kill American citizens to the death penalty.
Senator Cornyn stated, “Violent predators who enter our country illegally and brutally murder American citizens should be subject to the death penalty as a consequence of their heinous actions.” He emphasized that enshrining this order into law would protect Americans and ensure future presidents cannot reverse it.
Senator Daines remarked, “This legislation sends a strong message across the globe: we will not tolerate the senseless murder of innocent Americans at the hands of illegal immigrants any longer.”
The bill is presented as a response to what Republicans describe as a surge in illegal immigration and violent crimes under President Biden’s administration. Senator Ricketts argued that after four years of open border policies, measures like this are necessary to secure communities.
The proposal includes amending the Criminal Code to introduce an aggravating factor for murders committed by illegal immigrants. It aims to guide juries towards administering the death penalty in such cases. The act also seeks full implementation and codification of President Trump’s Executive Order from January 2025.
Specific cases cited include incidents where illegal immigrants allegedly committed violent acts against U.S. citizens over recent years.
The senators supporting this bill argue it will restore law and order while preventing further loss of American lives due to criminal activities by those illegally present in the country.
