Governor Greg Abbott announced the expansion of federal disaster assistance to additional counties in Texas following recent flooding. The updated Presidential Disaster Declaration now includes Burnet, Kerr, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties for FEMA’s Individual Assistance program. Additionally, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Menard, and San Saba counties are approved for FEMA’s Public Assistance program.
“President Donald Trump approved my request to add more counties to his disaster declaration,” stated Governor Abbott. “There has been extraordinary collaboration with the state and the federal government to make sure that we address Texans’ needs as quickly as possible through disaster assistance programs.”
Texans in the specified counties can apply for FEMA disaster assistance online or by phone. More counties might be added after further damage assessments. The FEMA Public Assistance program is also available for emergency work and repair or replacement of damaged facilities in certain areas.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) encourages Texans to report damages via its assessment tool when safe. This information aids officials in identifying impacted areas and connecting residents with resources.
Governor Abbott has initiated several actions in response to the flooding: launching a new emotional support line, requesting additional county inclusions for the disaster declaration, directing flood response efforts, announcing unemployment assistance related to flood impacts, and surveying affected areas.
The governor continues coordinating with local officials and increasing readiness levels at the State Operations Center due to ongoing weather threats.
