Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of Fate has been recognized as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO). This designation comes after Fate completed a multi-step certification process aimed at promoting music-related economic development and job creation within Texas communities.
“Congratulations to the City of Fate on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” stated Governor Abbott. He emphasized the importance of music to Texas’ cultural heritage and economic growth, noting that “the Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide.”
Senator Bob Hall also extended his congratulations, describing the recognition as evidence of Fate’s dedication to creativity and local business support. “Music has long been a part of Texas’ cultural identity,” he remarked, adding that Fate’s growing music scene is emblematic of regional innovation.
Representative Katrina Pierson echoed these sentiments, highlighting music’s role in fostering community connections. Mayor Andrew Greenberg expressed pride in Fate’s new status, emphasizing music as a unifying force that celebrates diversity.
City Economic Development Director Matt Wavering noted that becoming a certified community aligns with Fate’s economic vision. He pointed out that live music boosts local businesses by attracting foot traffic and encouraging cultural tourism.
Local business owner Laura Smith highlighted the impact of The Fate Food Haul as a live music venue, stating it draws visitors who then explore other local establishments. “It’s more than entertainment; it’s an engine for economic growth and community connection,” she said.
The certification ceremony will be cohosted by TMO and the City of Fate on June 16 during a City Council meeting. Gini Mascorro from TMO will present the designation.
Fate is now one of 84 communities with this certification. More information about the program can be found at gov.texas.gov/music/page/music-friendly-communities.
The TMO operates under the Governor’s Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office and has been active since 1990. It supports job creation in the state’s vibrant music industry while serving as an informational hub for musicians and businesses alike.
