U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has announced that his Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution, aimed at overturning a regulation on natural gas water heaters, has been signed into law by President Trump. The regulation, introduced by the Biden-Harris administration in December 2024, was set to increase costs and limit consumer choices.

Senator Cruz stated, “The Biden-Harris administration knew they were increasing costs on American consumers and limiting consumers’ ability to choose the heater that works best for them, but they didn’t care. President Trump’s signature today will ensure this anti-consumer regulation is permanently revoked.”

According to industry experts, the rule from the Biden-Harris administration would have added $450 to each affected water heater’s cost. It was estimated that 40% of Americans impacted by this rule would experience a net cost increase over the appliance’s lifespan. Senator Cruz introduced his CRA to repeal this rule in January.
