U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has introduced legislation aimed at repealing the Natural Gas Tax included in the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. This move is part of an effort to bolster American energy security and address concerns about economic impacts.

Senator Cruz stated, “Democratic policies have forced Americans to endure historic inflation and economic pain, and have jeopardized American energy independence and national security. It’s time to unleash American energy. The 2024 election was a mandate for new policies. My legislation eliminates what would be a crippling tax. I urge my colleagues to expeditiously take up and pass my legislation.”

Senator Roger Marshall expressed his support by saying, “The Democrats’ relentless attacks on American energy have killed good paying jobs, ceded power to foreign nations, and caused energy bills to skyrocket.” He added optimism about President Trump’s forthcoming efforts: “Fortunately, in a few short days President Trump will right the wrongs of the Biden Administrations’ failed energy policies.”

Senator Tommy Tuberville criticized the current administration’s approach: “The Biden administration has once again prioritized woke climate activists over the American people,” he said. Tuberville emphasized that his participation in this legislative effort is focused on putting “American families first.”

Senator Katie Britt highlighted voter sentiment: “The American people voted resoundingly in November for an America-first approach to energy policy.” She sees repealing the tax as crucial for affordable energy.

Hon. Jason Isaac from the American Energy Institute endorsed the bill, describing it as “a vital step toward reducing energy costs for American consumers.” He emphasized its role in empowering responsible American energy producers.

The legislation has garnered endorsements from several industry associations including US Oil & Gas Association (USOGA) and American Petroleum Institute (API). Previously introduced by Senator Cruz in May 2024, this initiative seeks congressional approval once more.
