U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has introduced a new bill aimed at expanding childcare facilities at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. The proposed legislation, known as the Dyess CDC Addition Design Authorization Act, seeks to enhance the existing Child Development Center (CDC) on the base.
Senator Cruz emphasized the importance of this initiative for military families. “We have a duty to ensure that military families in Texas and across the country should never have to worry about accessing childcare near where they are stationed,” he stated. He further urged his colleagues to support and pass the legislation promptly.
The bill outlines several key actions, including authorizing the U.S. Secretary of the Air Force to conduct planning and design work for expanding childcare access at Dyess Air Force Base. It also ensures that any new designs will integrate with current infrastructure while maintaining security and safety standards.
Additionally, the act aims to preserve daily operations during construction by considering occupancy continuity. This effort is part of a broader goal to support military family quality of life, which is seen as vital for retention and readiness within the armed forces.
The project intends to use existing planning funds to streamline execution without needing additional appropriations.
