U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has expressed his approval following President Trump’s authorization of a presidential permit to expand and maintain the Laredo-Colombia Solidarity International Bridge. This bridge connects Laredo, Texas, with Colombia, Nuevo León, Mexico. The expansion is expected to enhance economic activities in border communities by fostering trade, business, and tourism.
Senator Cruz stated, “After tireless work in Congress, I would like to thank President Trump for approving this important presidential permit for the expansion and continued maintenance of the Laredo-Colombia Solidarity International Bridge. This permit is a direct result of the legislation I authorized and passed in the National Defense Authorization Act, and I remain committed to securing additional permits that promote economic growth and benefit in Texas. I look forward to working with President Trump and his administration to promote U.S. trade and jobs throughout the Lone Star State.”
Cruz has been actively involved in expediting bridge permitting processes in the U.S. Senate. In May 2025, he partnered with Senator Ben Ray Luján to introduce the International Bridge and Port of Entry Modernization Act. This legislation aims to speed up the presidential permitting process for international bridges and land ports of entry while building on previous efforts led by Cruz that streamlined permits for international bridges across South Texas.
Senator Cruz’s efforts have earned him recognition as he became the first elected Republican member awarded the Key to the City of Laredo for his leadership in improving the permitting process for international bridges.
In October 2024, Senators Cruz and Cornyn successfully secured a presidential permit for another major project—the Laredo 4/5 International Bridge (Bridge 4/5) located in Webb County.
