In a recent Senate Commerce Committee executive session, Chairman Ted Cruz (R-Texas) highlighted the need for strong leadership at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He urged his colleagues to support Bryan Bedford’s nomination as FAA Administrator. According to Sen. Cruz, Mr. Bedford’s extensive experience in the aviation industry and background as a pilot make him well-suited to lead necessary cultural and operational changes at the FAA.
Cruz emphasized Bedford’s 25-year tenure at Republic Airways, where he has demonstrated a commitment to aviation safety and grown the airline into one of the largest regional carriers with over 200 aircraft. “Bryan Bedford is ready to be FAA Administrator,” said Cruz, adding that Mr. Bedford’s experience surpasses that of previous nominees.
The committee also considered several legislative measures aimed at enhancing U.S. leadership in various sectors, including data protection for children online and commercial space development. Among these was Senator Markey’s Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act or COPPA 2.0, which seeks to update privacy protections for minors aged 13-16.
Senator Cruz noted that other bills being discussed would bolster critical manufacturing and ensure fair play in international sports competitions through acts like the Restoring Confidence in the World Anti-Doping Agency Act of 2025.
The session underscored an investment of over $12 billion planned for modernizing air traffic control systems—a move requiring experienced management as represented by Mr. Bedford’s candidacy.
Senator Cruz concluded by urging his colleagues’ support for both Bryan Bedford’s nomination and the proposed legislation.
