U.S. Senator John Cornyn from Texas held a meeting with Jared Isaacman, who has been nominated by President Trump to lead the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The meeting took place in Washington on May 6, 2025.
Senator Cornyn, along with Senator Ted Cruz and Congressman Brian Babin, recently addressed a letter to President Trump. In this letter, they urged the administration to consider relocating NASA’s headquarters from Washington, D.C., to the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. This move is suggested for when the current lease of the D.C. office expires in 2028. The lawmakers argue that Houston’s long-standing leadership in space exploration makes it an ideal location for NASA’s headquarters and believe that such a relocation could save taxpayer money while boosting growth in the U.S. space sector.
In addition to these efforts, Senator Cornyn introduced legislation known as the Bring the Space Shuttle Home Act. This act aims to relocate the Space Shuttle Discovery from Virginia to its intended home near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
Senator Cornyn serves on several Senate committees including Finance, Judiciary, Intelligence, Foreign Relations, and Budget.
