Rep. Chip Roy, who is currently serving in the United States Congress representing Texas’ 21st district, expressed opinions on various matters through a series of tweets. These posts provide insights into his views on border policies and fiscal issues. Roy, who has been a member of Congress since 2019, replaced Lamar Smith and currently resides in Austin, Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin.
On May 1, 2025, the Rep. Chip Roy Press Office tweeted about the significant decrease in encounters at the Southwest border over a year’s span, stating “Encounters at the Southwest border have PLUMMETED in ONE YEAR.” According to the tweet, encounters decreased from 179,000 under the Biden-Harris-Mayorkas administration in April 2024 to 12,030 under the Trump-Noem-Homan team in April 2025.
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Chip Roy addressed his colleagues on the House floor, pointing out disagreements on fiscal calculations and tax cuts. He remarked on the partisan divide by tweeting “Unfortunately, a whole bunch of my colleagues on the Democrat side of the aisle and a whole bunch of my colleagues on the Republican side of the aisle refuse to do basic math…”
Further elaborating on fiscal discipline, Roy expressed concern over substantial budget deficits in another tweet. He highlighted the dissent he faces as a fiscal conservative in Congress by stating “A whole lot of people are saying, ‘Well, Chip, you and all these fiscal hawks, these fiscal conservatives, you guys want to do all these massive cuts, and we can’t do it, and it’s crazy.'” and noted that the country is currently nearing $2 trillion deficits.
Roy, born in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1972, has consistently advocated for border security and fiscal conservatism throughout his tenure in Congress.
