Rep. Chip Roy, serving in the U.S. Congress for Texas’ 21st district since 2019, recently took to social media to express his views on current legislative issues. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, and residing in Austin, Roy has been vocal about fiscal responsibility and reform.
On May 16, 2025, Rep. Roy tweeted his commitment to remain in Washington over the weekend to work on legislation: “I’m not going home this weekend. I’m staying here all weekend and we’re going to get this damn thing done but the right way.” He emphasized his unwillingness to support any bill that would raise debt or increase deficits.
In another tweet from the same day, he succinctly outlined his policy priorities: “Cut Spending. Shrink the Deficit. Cut Taxes. Reform Medicaid. Repeal the Green New Scam. Lead.”
Later that day, Rep. Roy reiterated his concerns about fiscal policy and its impact on future generations: “We are writing checks we cannot cash, and our children are going to pay the price.” He insisted on significant reforms before he would support any new bill.
Chip Roy was born in 1972 and graduated from the University of Virginia with a BS in 1994; he later earned a JD from the University of Texas-Austin in 2003.
