Rep. Chip Roy, representing Texas’ 21st district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, has recently shared his views on Medicaid and fiscal responsibility through a series of tweets. Born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972, Roy currently resides in Austin and holds degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Texas-Austin.
On May 12, 2025, Rep. Roy expressed concerns about the expansion of Medicaid, stating “Medicaid was never meant to be this expansive… We have a duty to safeguard taxpayers and ensure that Medicaid does not bankrupt us. Cut the waste. Cut the fraud. Cut the abuse.” This tweet underscores his focus on preventing financial mismanagement within government programs.
The following day, on May 13, 2025, Rep. Roy reiterated his stance against increasing national debt and criticized certain beneficiaries of government spending by stating “I’m not here to rack up an additional $20 trillion in debt over 10 years or to subsidize healthy, able-bodied adults, corrupt blue states, and monopoly hospital CEOs,” emphasizing his commitment to fiscal conservatism.
