Rep. Chip Roy Press Office has recently shared a series of tweets focusing on the need for Medicaid reform. Rep. Chip Roy, who represents Texas’ 21st district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, voiced concerns over the current state of Medicaid and its usage by able-bodied adults.

On May 13, 2025, a tweet from the press office emphasized that “Medicaid was intended to assist vulnerable populations like the disabled, pregnant women, children, and people in poverty.” It further stated that able-bodied adults capable of working are becoming the largest subgroup on Medicaid and called for reforms.

The following day, on May 14, 2025, another tweet reiterated that “Medicaid was designed to help disabled and non-able-bodied individuals.” The message highlighted issues of abuse by able-bodied Americans and states allegedly manipulating the system. The tweet concluded with a call to action: “Congress has the DUTY to reform Medicaid.”

Chip Roy was born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972 and currently resides in Austin. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994 and later earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas-Austin in 2003.
