Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO) and the City of Brownwood will host a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on October 6. The event, which will be available both virtually and in person, is aimed at helping Brownwood pursue certification as a Music Friendly Texas Community.
“Music is key to the Texas brand,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in Brownwood, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”
The workshop will feature Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, who will discuss what it means to become a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. Mascorro will also explain the benefits of certification and answer questions from attendees.
Launched by TMO in 2016, the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program was the first initiative of its kind in the country. It provides participating communities with resources to support local music industry development and signals to industry professionals that certified cities are committed to fostering music business growth. Over 85 cities in Texas have already earned this designation.
The upcoming workshop marks Brownwood’s initial step toward joining this network of certified communities. Musicians, venue operators, and members of the public are invited to participate either online or at Lehnis Railroad Museum and Visitor Center in Brownwood.
More information about the program can be found on the Texas Music Office website.
