Brandt Nigro has been appointed as the Associate Head Coach for The University of Texas Women’s Swimming & Diving program, Head Women’s Swimming Coach Carol Capitani announced on May 18. Nigro brings over a decade of collegiate coaching experience, most recently serving as Head Coach at Army West Point.
Nigro’s appointment comes after seven years with Army West Point, where he led both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. Since June 2024, he also held the title of Director of Swimming & Diving at Army. During his tenure, the Black Knights achieved several milestones including their first NCAA Championship qualifier in more than three decades and their first dual-meet victory over Navy in over 30 years.
“Brandt is an exceptional fit for Texas,” said Carol Capitani. “His most recent experience as Head Coach at Army West Point and at NC State brings immediate depth and credibility to our staff. Brandt’s energy, investment in his athletes, and his clear understanding of what it means to compete and succeed at this level made him a standout throughout this process. I’m looking forward to working together and continuing the sustained excellence that is Texas Swimming and Diving.”
Under Nigro’s leadership during the 2025-26 season, Army’s women’s team posted a historic year with three swimmers qualifying for the NCAA Championship—the first since joining Division I in 1991—and finishing second at the Patriot League Championship meet with a strong dual-meet record. On the men’s side, Johnny Crush earned back-to-back All-America honors while setting school records.
Nigro previously coached at NC State from 2017 to 2019 as an assistant coach focusing on sprint freestyle and stroke events. Both men’s and women’s teams won ACC titles during his time there, with several athletes achieving individual conference crowns or national championship performances.
Prior roles include coaching stints at Marshall University—where he helped guide its women’s team to a record finish—and positions with UMBC’s Retriever Aquatic Club as well as high school programs in Connecticut. Nigro holds a bachelor’s degree from College of Charleston along with advanced degrees from University of Hartford.
