U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, along with Representative Ronny Jackson, have introduced a bill to rename the U.S. Post Office in Amarillo, Texas, in honor of Mayor Jerry H. Hodge. The proposed name is the Mayor Jerry H. Hodge Post Office Building.
Senator Cruz highlighted Mayor Hodge’s contributions to the community, noting his transformation of a local pharmacy into a national enterprise and his role as the youngest mayor in Amarillo’s history. “Mayor Hodge was a pillar of the Amarillo community and a true servant leader to the Panhandle,” Cruz stated.
Senator Cornyn praised Mayor Hodge for his efforts in establishing educational institutions and bringing a minor league baseball team to Amarillo. He expressed pride in joining Senator Cruz and Congressman Jackson in this legislative effort, saying it would preserve Hodge’s legacy for future generations.
Representative Jackson also emphasized Hodge’s impact on Amarillo beyond his official titles, describing him as a successful businessman and rancher who worked tirelessly for the Texas Panhandle. “I’m proud to have called him a friend and am honored to introduce this piece of legislation,” Jackson remarked.
The companion legislation was introduced by Rep. Ronny Jackson in the House.
