The Texas Track & Field distance squad began competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 17 with Aidan Torres delivering a notable performance in the men’s 10,000 meters at Cougar Stadium in Azusa, California.

Torres completed his first collegiate 10K race in 28:59.76, breaking the 29-minute barrier and moving to ninth place on Texas’ all-time performers list for this event.

In other results from Thursday night, Hudson Bennett achieved a personal best by ten seconds in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:49.94 and finished eleventh overall. On the women’s side, Aishling Callanan posted a time of 10:39.88 in her own steeplechase event.

Competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational is set to continue Friday with Emma Wade competing in the women’s 800-meter open starting at 2 p.m. Additionally, other members of the Longhorns will participate at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Florida. Four Texas student-athletes are scheduled to compete there beginning at 11 a.m. Central Time with entries in the women’s 200 meters.

These early performances set an encouraging tone for both meets as athletes look to build momentum through their respective competitions.
